55 year old woman 8 weeks after liposuction of her upper arms performed by Dr Sam Gershenbaum. There are some who have excess and localized fat of the upper arm who simply dont want a brachioplasty with a scar running along the bottom posterior aspect of the arm from the armpit to the elbow. Often, liposuction alone can make dramatic improvements. When properly done, enough fat can be removed with liposuction alone allowing adequate skin contraction to give a satisfactory result. Once the weight of the fat is removed, and careful superficial liposuction performed, a good amount of skin will shrink and contract. This will not result in firm and tighter skin like a brachioplasty, however, I have many patients who have enough improvement and are very satisfied and decide not to have a brachioplasty scar.
