Cosmetic Surgical and Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Procedures on the Rise

As reported in the International Journal of Aesthetic and Anti Aging Medicine, Statistics released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) shows Cosmetic Surgery procedures along with minimally invasive cosmetic procedures in the U.S. are up 2 percent from 2016 to 2017. Of the approximate 1.8 million cosmetic surgical procedures performed, breast augmentation, liposuction, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery and abdominoplasty were reported as the top five procedures. Although not in the top 5 reported procedures, breast reductions which had a 4 percent decline in the numbers performed in 2016 had in increase of 11 percent in 2017.

Botox, soft tissue fillers, chemical peel, laser hair removal and microdermabrasion were the top five of the reported 15.7 million minimally invasive cosmetic procedures performed. Americans have seen about a 200 percent increase in minimally invasive cosmetic procedures since 2000 which range from Botox and fillers to lasers and IPL to non surgical fat reduction and non surgical skin tightening. Non invasive procedures to reduce fat and tighten skin continue to gain popularity. Surely as the technology changes and improves, this increase is sure to continue.

Dr Gershenbaum urges anyone considering either a surgical or non surgical cosmetic procedure, do your research and homework. Be sure to consult with a physician who is board certified, by a nationally recognized board, in performing the requested procedures and performs those procedures on a routine basis.
